Free AccessBiden: "Republican Leadership In Congress Will Crash The Economy Next Year"
President Biden has attacked Republican brinksmanship in remarks on the federal deficit at the White House.
- Biden: "If you're worried about the economy, you need to know this, Republicans have made it clear they will crash the economy next year by threatening the full faith and credit of the U.S. unless there are cuts to Social Security and Medicare. I will not yield. I will not cut social security."
- In an offhand response to a question from the press pack, Biden says it would be "irresponsible" to permanently repeal the debt ceiling.
- Biden outlines what he believes are the successes of his administration: "Ten million jobs created - a record for any administration at this point in the presidency. 3.5% unemployment, a 50-year low, 700,000 manufacturing jobs created... Proving that made in America is no longer a slogan."
- Biden downplays the prospect of a spike in gasoline prices, seen as a critical threat to Democrat midterm chances: "The price of gas at the pump is coming down. It's down $1.20 since the summer and just this week its fallen another 10 cents."
- On Democrat midterm chances Biden says: "We're gonna see one more shift back to us. We're moving in the right direction."
