Biden To Address Irish Parliament On April 13

US-EU

White House National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby has told reporters that he "expects [President] Biden to address Ireland's parliament on April 13."

  • Biden address will come during a trip to the United Kingdom and Ireland from April 11-14 confirmed by the White House yesterday.
  • White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement that Biden will begin the trip in Belfast, Northern Ireland to “mark the tremendous progress since the signing of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement 25 years ago and to underscore the readiness of the United States to support Northern Ireland’s vast economic potential to the benefit of all communities.”
  • Biden held a call yesterday with King Charles III, “underscoring the strength of the relationship between our countries” and confirming that he will send First Lady Jill Biden to represent him at the King’s Coronation on May 6.
  • That fact that Biden will not attend the Coronation or visit London during the trip may be considered a snub by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak with whom Biden has worked closely with recently on Ukraine and the AUKUS submarine deal.
