Biden To Deliver Remarks From White House Shortly

US

President Biden is shortly due to deliver remarks from the White House at a meeting of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council. Livestream.

  • The remarks will be Biden's first public comments since he offered his most overt criticism yet of Israeli strategy in Gaza yesterday. Biden may chose to open his remarks with a brief comment on Israel, or on the status of Ukraine funding, which remains stalled in Congress amid contentious negotiations to overhaul US-Mexico border policy.
  • Axios reports: “President Biden — in rare and blunt criticism [yesterday] — called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government to embrace a two-state solution… The open criticism is a shift for the president and signals growing disagreement about what happens after the war in Gaza ends.”
  • White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will travel to Israel on Thursday and Friday to hold meetings with Netanyahu, President Issac Herzog, and the War Cabinet.
  • Sullivan is expected to convey concerns about the timeframe for Israel’s campaign against Hamas and advocate for President Biden’s vision for a two-state solution after the conclusion of the war.
