Blinken And Truss Reaffirm Joint Response To Russia, China, Iran

US

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss have just completed a call discussing ongoing tensions with Russia, China, and Iran.

  • The call comes today after an period of increased geopolitical heat. The escalating crisis in Ukraine is the primary focus of the West this week but events in the South China Sea and the Iranian nuclear talks in Vienna also require considerable diplomatic attention.
  • Following the call the State Department announced:'The United States and the United Kingdom are coordinating with each other, as well as with NATO and European allies and partners, to encourage Russia to de-escalate tensions and commit to a path of diplomacy. The Secretary and Foreign Secretary Truss also discussed coordination to stand firmly against economic coercion by the People’s Republic of China, and how to reach a successful conclusion on talks with Iran on mutual return to implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.'
  • On Twitter Truss said:'The UK and the US are united in support for Ukraine. Today @secblinken and I reaffirmed: Ukraine’s sovereignty is non-negotiable. Any incursion would be met with coordinated sanctions. Russia must de-escalate.'
