Bolivia, Argentina, Peru: Progress On 'Lithium OPEC'

The governments of Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile are entertaining the idea of creating a lithium cartel for the South American region. This idea has gained credibility in recent weeks with Chile's socialist president elect Gabriel Boric making overtures about the restoration of diplomatic relations with Bolivia.


The three countries now have socialist governments who will be interested in maximising state revenue from lithium, which is currently in high demand, and expected to rise in coming decades. A political compromise made between the three Lithium producers could have a significance influence on the lithium market.
