Bolsonaro To Meet Hungary's Orban Following Putin Meeting In Russia

BRAZIL

Brazil's Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper reporting that President Jair Bolosonaro will visit Hungary for meetings with Prime Minister Viktor Orban following his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in February.

  • Report also claims that Bolsonaro could hold meetings with Polish President Andrzej Duda as well.
  • Both Bolsonaro and Orban face difficult elections in 2022. Bolsonaro remains a significant distance behind leftist former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in opinion polling ahead of the October presidential eleciton. Meanwhile, in Hungary, Orban faces a unified opposition alliance in the March parliamentary election.
  • Trips such as these could become more common throughout 2022 as Bolsonaro seeks the support and endorsement of other populist right-wing leaders in an effort to bolster his campaign.
