Britain Calls On Germany To Unlock Supply Of Battle Tanks To Ukraine

UK

British Defence Minister Ben Wallace has told the UK parliament today that Germany must act to unlock the supply of battle tanks to Ukraine.

  • Wallace: "It has been reported that obviously Poland is very keen to donate some Leopards, as is Finland. All of this currently relies on the German government's decisions - not only whether the Germans will supply their own Leopards, but whether or not they'll give permissions to others. I would urge my German colleagues to do that."
  • Joe Barnes at the Telegraph: "Important detail on German-made Leopard II tanks being sent to Ukraine is that Berlin must sign off on export declarations for these donations. Wallace doesn’t mention Germany by name but his comments are a clear effort to unblock the Leopard logjam."
  • Berlin has been resistant to the supply of battle tanks, stating that the provision of tanks should be made by consensus amongst allies of Ukraine.
  • Wallace said: "I know there have been concerns in the German political body that they don't want to go alone. Well, they're not alone."
