Cabinet Reaffirms Participation In ICC, Continues To Explore Legal Options

South Africa's Cabinet has confirmed the country's membership in the International Criminal Court, said Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni while commenting on the outcomes of a Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

  • Nstshavheni added that discussions are underway in "different spheres of government" as the administration continues to explore legal options when it comes to the International Criminal Court.
  • The official pushed back against recent comments from Western Cape Premier Alan Winde who said that he would instruct regional law enforcement officers to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he visited the province.
  • Ntshavheni noted that she doesn't "know how Alan Winde will arrest President Putin because he will be protected by the presidential unit." ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula earlier said that Winde cannot stop anyone from entering the country.
