Cadem Poll Indicates Kast Would Win Run-Off, CPI Beats Estimates

CHILE
  • Conservative candidate Jose Antonio Kast (25%) widens his distance with Boric (19%) in the presidential race and for the first time surpasses him in a possible second round (44% vs 40%).
  • The most recent Cadem Poll was released on Oct. 14 and can be found here: https://cadem.cl/estudios/kast-25-amplia-su-distancia-con-boric-19-en-la-carrera-presidencial-y-por-primera-vez-lo-supera-en-una-eventual-segunda-vuelta-44-vs-40/
  • Chile's consumer prices rose more than expected this morning, exacerbating pressure on the BCCh as it extends its cycle of aggressive interest rate increases to tame above-target inflation. For reference, the next central bank meeting is not until December 14.
  • While front-end swap rates continue to be impacted by above-target inflation (CPI notably clocking 6.0% Y/y for October), the Camara curve has started to shift lower from 2-year tenors and further out amid the growing support for candidate Kast. Furthermore, mounting opposition to a fourth pension fund withdrawal bill has boosted this relief rally.
  • USDCLP has opened around 0.2% lower at 810, with the 50-day EMA acting as short-term support for the pair, intersecting around the 800 mark
