Campos Neto Says Will Evaluate Need For Final Hike

  • The central bank is not currently thinking about rate cuts and will evaluate the need for an additional final hike in September said Governor Roberto Campos Neto at an event in Sao Paulo organized by local newspaper Valor Economico.
    • The BCB Chief added the central bank still needs to send “strong message” despite improvements on inflation.
    • For reference, the next Copom meeting falls on September 21.
  • BCB director Bruno Serra attends open event at 10am Brasilia time.
  • Former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva widened the margin over incumbent Jair Bolsonaro in an eventual run-off, reaching 52% of voter intention from 50% previously, while Bolsonaro dropped to 36% from 37%, according to an Ipec poll.
