Canadian LNG in Final Stages Before Starting Shipments to Asia: Platts
LNG
The first Canadian LNG shipment is set to sail early 2025 from Kitmat in British Columbia on the Pacific Coast, offering a competitive edge when targeting APAC buyers, Platts said.
- Voyages from Prince Rupert port in British Columbia, Canada, to Tokyo will take around 8-9 days, compared to double that for a USGC-Japan voyage.
- Canadian LNG is also 40% less carbon intensive that USGC cargoes, a further attraction for Japanese and South Korean buyers.
- The Shell-led 14m mtpa LNG Canada first phase is preparing to inject gas and start warming the gas liquefaction plants this summer, with a full start-up later this year.
- Asia is the main target for the project’s output, with the region’s energy demand expected to rise by 30% in the next 10 years.
