Canadian Protests May Spread To US

  • The Department of Homeland Security has warned similar protests to those ongoing in Canada could spread south of the border. Plans are reportedly underway for a protest next month in Washington DC and the DHS said that protests could block roads in major cities and target the Super Bowl or the State of the Union address.
  • The warning comes as supply chain issues have been reported due to protests at the Ambassador’s bridge. The bridge is a critical commercial link between the US and Canada and car manufacturers including Toyota and Ford have announced issues.
  • US automotive supply chains are already suffering dual shocks from Covid and the global semiconductor shortage.
