CBRT Minutes: Overall, Slightly More Cautious Rhetoric from the CBRT

TURKEY
  • MPC highlights strong external demand factors and a more robust recovery signalled by recent high-frequency data aligned with the vaccine rollout
  • Sees inflation as volatile in the near-term - and sounds relatively cautious instead of focusing on the recent downside surprises, but did say the tightness of policy had begun to be observed
  • Notes improvements in the seasonally adjusted current acc balance and tourism based upside in the pipeline, but cited a slightly milder decceleration in credit growth- Reiterated pledge to keep rates above inflation with a focus on medium-term targets
  • Little reaction in TRY assets thus far, similar to the meeting itself, which was essentially a non-event on the day for markets
