Chamber Of Commerce Calls On Congress To Halt Build Back Better Bill

The US Chamber of Commerce, a lobbying group representing businesses, has called for Congress to halt work on the multi-trillion dollar social spending package, the 'Build Back Better' bill in the wake of the acceleration in US consumer price inflation.

  • Neil Bradley, Executive VP of the Chamber of Commerce stated that “With prices rising 6.8% over the past year, squeezing budgets for families and small businesses alike, it is time for Congress to hit pause on the reconciliation bill."
  • The narrative of conservative politicians and groups opposing the BBB bill arguing the case it will push up inflation has accelerated recently, with Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) citing potential inflationary pressures from the package as one of his major reasons for not supporting it at present.
