Chancellor Sunak's Approval Rating Rises Following Windfall Tax Announcement

UK

UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak has seen his approval rating strengthen slightly this week after a policy reversal on an energy windfall tax.

  • Sunak was clear favourite to succeed Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the leader of the Conservative party following a strong performance during the pandemic but revelations about his tax status caused a precipitous drop in approval following the release of his Spring Statement in March.
  • Conservative Home has also shown a 15% swing in Sunak's approval since May 25 in their 'Cabinet League Table.
