Chances Of CDU Entering Gov't Shrinking According To Betting Markets

Betting markets showing bettors shifting money away from the prospect of the centre-right Christian Democratic Union sitting as part of the next German gov't according to the latest data from Smarkets.

  • In the immediate aftermath of the 26 September federal election, the 'Jamaica' coalition (CDU/CSU-Green-FDP) was given a 21.3% implied probability of forming the next gov't. This has now fallen to 16.7%. Meanwhile, the prospect of a 'traffic light' coalition (SPD, Green, FDP) has risen from 72.5% to 78.7%.
  • Polls continue to show strong public support for the SPD's Olaf Scholz to serve as the next German chancellor.
