The Chicago Business BarometerTM, produced with MNI, asked firms "How do you see your capacity utilization rate in this year’s lead-up to the holiday season compared to last year?"
- Approximately 26% of respondents see capacity utilization at 90%, 21% see it at 80% and 18% at 75% capacity utilization.
- Close to 12% of firms see production slowing to less than 70% utilization, whilst 18% of firms were unsure as outlooks remain clouded.
- Only around 6% anticipated 100% capacity utilization.
- This data foreshadows further weakening in US capacity utilization rates into year-end. US manufacturing capacity utilization fell by 0.6pp to 78.9% in November to the lowest level since February.
