China Bill Pushed To After Senate Recess, 6 Jan Comm Vote Today

Punchbowl and Politico both reporting that following the hold ups to the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (and the associated Endless Frontier Act), further votes on this bill - intended to enhance US competition against China in areas of tech research - could be pushed to 8 June after the Memorial Day weekend recess.

  • This would allow for a cloture vote today to put forward a bill establishing an 9/11-style independent bipartisan commission to investigate the 6 January Capitol storming. Remains unlikely to pass, with fewer than 10 Republicans voicing support for the commission.
  • This plan would also allow for confirmation votes on 2 Biden appointees today.
