China Criticises Chip Export Restrictions

NETHERLANDS

(MNI) London - The Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands has criticised the Dutch gov'ts decision to impose export controls on certain technologies related to the production of advanced microchips and semiconductors at manufacturer ASML. The Netherlands, as one of the three nations manufacturing tech to produce advanced chips, has - alongside Japan - come under pressurefrom the United States to restrict China's access to chips and chip-making tech required for advanced military applications.

  • Embassy statement says that China "firmly opposes the Dutch government's additional export measures for advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. [...] This kind of act will not only damage the legitimate rights of Chinese companies, but also cause losses to Dutch companies, destabilize the global industrial and supply chains and hurt the good reputation of the Netherlands in supporting free trade.[...]
  • Statement: "We call on the Dutch side to bear in mind the larger interest of safeguarding international trade rules and bilateral economic and trade cooperation, immediately correct its wrongdoings.[...] China will resolutely safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. We are also ready to work with the Dutch side to address the issue based on the principle of mutual benefit."
