China Imports More Malaysia Crude Than They Actually Produced

Chinese imports of Malaysian crude oil have surged to almost 800kbpd more than actual Malaysian production according to Bloomberg.

  • Ship-to-ship transfers allowing the rebranding of crude as Malaysian is the likely reason.
  • The actual origin of the extra crude could be from Iran, Venezuela, and Russia.
