China LNG Imports in September Down 11.6% yr/yr

Chinese LNG imports declined 11.6% yr/yr in September to 5.9m tons according to Chinese General Administration of Customs data.

  • The cumulative LNG imports in the first nine months of 2022 were 46.51m tons, down 20.2% yr/yr.
  • Russian LNG supplies to China increased 29% to 4.23m tons in Jan-Sept. Russia is the fourth largest LNG supplier to China after Australia, Qatar, and Malaysia.
  • In 2021 China imported a record 78.93m tons of LNG.
  • China’s pipeline gas imports rose 9.8% yr/yr in September to 4.25m tons, and Jan-Sept volumes were up 10.5% yr/yr to 34.66m tons.
