China to Raise LNG Import Capacity by Third in 2024: Oilchem

China’s LNG import capacity could increase by a third in 2024 due to increased domestic investment in LNG infrastructure according to Oilchem.

  • Total import capacity is to increase to 170m tons per year with the start of operations at eight new LNG import terminals, and with the expansion of another two.
  • More city gas distributors have started buying LNG independently.
  • Slower progress has been seen in building new gas pipelines with costs more expensive than import terminals and due to geopolitical tensions.
