EMERGING MARKETS: China to regain spotlight ahead of trade talks, holiday return
-Newsflow on China had been relatively few and far between over the past week,
but expect that to change as the country returns from its week-long National Day
holiday and the next round of trade talks with US negotiators is set to begin.
In an interview Friday, Kudlow specified that the first few days of the week
will hold talks between lower-level members of staff before Thursday/Friday's
'principal' negotiations begin. Although markets are to react in any material
way, newsflow on Hong Kong unrest will be carefully watched over the weekend,
particularly as Kudlow specified that the US' quiet support for the "freedom and
democracy" movement in Hong Kong could impinge on the trade negotiations.
-ZAR had a strong week with markets taking the government's fiscal reform plans
well. USD/ZAR's downtick extended Friday, targeting the 50-dma support at
14.9919.
-The Israeli and Peruvian rate decisions, Thai, Hungarian and Mexican central
bank minutes are all due next week. Larger data releases include Taiwan and
Philippines trade balance and Chinese services PMI.
