China’s Luna New Year Travels Rose 124% YoY

Travels in and out of China during the first six days of Luna New Year holiday on 21-26 Jan rose to 2.39mn, up by 123.9% from last year’s levels, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) said, citing data on trips made by various means of transport.

  • For the 21-26 Jan period this year, inbound trips totalled 1.2mn, representing a 127.2% increase from the first six days of the holiday last year, while 1.19mn outbound trips were made, up 120.7%, the NIA said.
  • Despite the increase in numbers for this year, travel has yet to rebound to pre-Covid levels in 2019, when a total of 12.53mn cross-border trips were made according to Xinhua news agency.
