STOCKS: Chinese mainland stocks were the notable underperformers today, with the
CSI shedding 0.8% in the morning session as the remainder of the major
Asia-Pacific indices moved higher.
- Mainland China stocks were hampered by the formalisation of a 25% U.S. tariff
on $16bn worth of Chinese goods.
- The Nikkei added 0.6% as telecoms and industrials outperformed.
- The Hang Seng added around 0.4% as the energy sector led the way higher, while
consumer staples came under pressure.
- The ASX 200 added around 0.3% with the heavyweight energy, materials and
financial sectors at the top of the pile.
- U.S. index futures registered marginal gains.
