Civil Servant Contract Negotiations to Continue Following Strikes

  • Contract negotiations concerning millions of civil servants and retired civil servants will resume Thursday, Dunya report, where a new proposal is expected from the government. This follows protests of civil servants affiliated with the Confederation of Public Employees Trade Union yesterday who went on strike following the government's proposal of a 14% pay rise for the first six months of 2024 and 9% for the second half.
  • Erdogan’s ruling AKP party might nominate former Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoglu as its candidate for the mayorship of Istanbul in the 2024 municipal elections. Earlier this week, opposition Imamoglu announced that he will run again for the local elections to be held on 31 March 2024. He was one of the candidates considered for the CHP chair after the general elections held earlier this year.
  • Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek is attending the Banks Association of Turkey general assembly – which begun at 0800BST/1000 local time.
