CNN Poll Shows First Signs Trump Indictment May Dent Favourability

US

Pollsters continue to struggle to evaluate the political consequences of former President Donald Trump's criminal prosecution. CNN published a widely shared survey yesterday which showed the first indication from a major poll that Trump’s favourability has dropped since his indictment.

  • According to CNN, the share of Republicans and Republican-leaners who say they will most likely support Trump as the presidential nominee fell from 53% to 47%, and 23% of GOP voters now say they would not consider supporting Trump under any circumstances — up from 16% last month.
  • A separate survey from NPR found that Trump has a “huge advantage” over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) with rural voters, white evangelical Christians, GOP women, those without college degrees and those who make less than $50,000 a year.
  • DeSantis has a marginal advantage with college graduates and urban voters, but not significant enough to dent Trump's overall advantage.
