Conf. Board Confidence Falls On Expectations, Labor Differential Remains Elevated

  • Conference Board consumer confidence missed in April, falling to 101.3 (cons 104.0) from a downward revised 104.0 (initial 104.2).
  • The decline was led by the expectations component (68.1, -5.9pts although still off mid-2022 lows of -65.6) whilst the present situation pushed higher (151.1, +2.2pts).
  • Within the details, limited change in the labor market differential at still elevated levels as it firmed from 36.5 to 37.3. It came from a combination of slightly higher jobs plentiful and slightly lower jobs hard to get.
