Confusion Among Dems Over Progress Of Infra Bills Continues

US

The various wings of the Democratic Party in the House and the Senate remain on different pages from one another when it comes to the progress of the USD1.2trn Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and the USD3.5trn 'Build Back Better' package.

  • With the House potentially set to vote on the Senate-approved bipartisan package tomorrow, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated earlier today with regards to the USD3.5trn package that "I think that we come to a place where we have agreement in legislative language ― not just principal ― in legislative language that the president supports," before the vote on the bipartisan package takes place.
  • Leftist Democrats in the House are demanding that the Build Back Better package is passed in both chambers before they vote on the bipartisan package.
  • However, centrist Democrats in both the House and the Senate are demanding the bipartisan package is passed before the USD3.5trn package can be approved.
  • Manu Raju at CNN tweets in response to Pelosi's comments "[moderate Dem Senator Joe] Manchin told me "that won't happen" when asked about Pelosi saying there needs to be deal on "legislative language" with WH on reconciliation to get progressives to support infrastructure tomorrow. "No one has been negotiating along those lines with the other parties here". Manchin's demands, which runs counter to the progressive demands: "All we need to do is pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill, sit down, and start negotiating in good faith. That's it."
