Congress Extends Legislative Session By One Week

PERU
  • Peru’s Congress will extend its current legislative session to Feb. 17 to address “issues of national interest,” the legislature said on its Twitter.
  • The one-week extension keeps alive the possibility that it might reach a deal on bringing elections forward. • Boluarte insisted on Friday that congress should listen to Peruvians and agree on early elections, just hours before the session was extended.
  • Separately, a mandate published in the official newspaper El Peruano Friday said Peru’s state of emergency will be extended by 60 days due to "continued terrorist activities and other illegal acts."
