The latest opinion poll from outlet YouGov will make happy reading for PM Boris Johnson ahead of his Conservative Party's annual conference in Manchester starting on 3 October. The poll shows the Conservative lead up to 8% over the main opposition Labour Party.

  • The Conservatives holding steady at 39% could be seen as something of a surprise given the HGV driver shortages that have seen petrol stations run dry and various products become unavailable in supermarkets, at the same time as a major increase in household energy prices.
  • However, as shown in snap polling in recent days, the public has largely laid the blame for fuel shortages at the feet of the media for 'hyping up' the issue, rather than the gov't.
