  • Italian business sentiment ticked up for a third consecutive month in January, rising 1.2 points to 109.1, adding to a slew of improved eurozone sentiment data largely boosted by optimistic outlooks as recessionary fears wane.
  • Yet consumer confidence edged 1.6 points lower (against expectations of unchanged), as a more pessimistic assessment of the current situation outpaced improvements in forward-looking outlooks.
  • The current bout of optimism is yet to translate into higher spending, as the current high-inflation environment coupled with a bloc-wide slump in demand will continue to dampen near-term growth.
