Consumer Confidence Remains At Depressed Levels

CZECHIA
  • This morning, economic data showed that consumer confidence ticked higher in August to -29.8 (from -33 the previous months).
  • However, confidence surveys still remain at ‘depressed’ levels and continue to price in a significant deceleration in the economic activity in the coming months (see chart).
  • The Czech Republic, which holds the European Union’s six-month rotating presidency, will initiate talks on a common EU-wide solution to high energy prices, according to Prime Minister Petr Fiala (BBG).
  • The surge in risk aversion has been weighing on all CEE currencies, with EURCZK gradually approaching its key resistance at 24.7370 (200DMA). A break above that level would open the door for a move up to 24.7980 (61.8% Fibo retracement).
