EU: Council confirms heavily-trailed story that a 14 strong list of "safe"
countries will have travel restrictions lifted from July 1, and as expected the
United States has not been included.
- Citizens from: Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro,
Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, and
Uruguay will be allowed to travel to the EU.
- Chinese citizens will be added to the list if the Chinese gov't approves a
reciprocal arrangement allowing EU citizens into China.
- The list will be reviewed every two weeks, and no country will be added
to/removed from the list without discussion.
- Should be noted this is not a binding agreement, and the admittance of
individuals from outside the EU ultimately sits with the member states.
