MALAYSIA: Country Wrap:   Semiconductor Exports Growing.

  • According to the President of the Malaysia Semi-Conductor Industry Association, exports for 2024 totaled MYR601bn a rise of MYR575bn in 2023.  The President suggested that Malaysia’s neutral stance on geopolitical issues is working in its favour (source: BBG).
  • Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) today announced the adoption of a harmonised Local Currency Transaction Framework Operational Guidelines (LCTF OG) and the expansion of eligible cross-border transactions under the framework to help facilitate local currency transactions across the three countries.  (source: BNM).
  • For a fourth successive day, the FTSE KLCI has lost ground down -0.07% today.
  • MYR: the ringgit was one of the worst performers of its regional peers today losing -.33% to be at 4.4478.
  • Bonds: MGS 10YR rallied today to see the yield decline 1bp to 3.80%
