POWER: Croatia Leads CEE in Renewables with 28% of Total Energy Mix

Croatia leads CEE region in renewable energy adoption, with 28% of its total energy mix coming from renewables, ahead of Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia at 25%, according to a new report by Erste Group.
- Additionally, Other surveyed countries—Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia—have lower renewable energy shares, ranging between 17-19%
- In the power mix, Croatia also leads with almost 60% of its electricity coming from renewables.
- Romania and Slovenia also have high renewable electricity shares, above 40%.
- But the Czech Republic and Hungary lag, with renewables contributing less than 20% of their electricity mix.
- However, the use of renewables in transport remains low, with Croatia and Serbia reporting shares of just 1%.
This falls far below the EU’s 2030 target of 29%, requiring substantial annual increases to meet the goal.
