Crude and Gasoline Disconnect for US Consumers

OIL PRODUCTS

US refiners are expected to keep producing too much gasoline In the months ahead, causing prices to keep finding downward pressure despite higher oil prices according to OPIS analyst Tom Kloza.

  • Meanwhile, “heating oil and diesel prices could really catch fire” he said. “We have very low inventories in Europe and very low inventories in the US” Kloza said.
  • As refiners push runs to produce more distillate barrels, US refiners will produce too much gasoline for winter demand.
  • GasBuddy data showed the US national average price of gasoline fell to $3.45/gal over the weekend – the lowest since late March.
