Crude Put Skew Strengthens

Brent put skew strengthens further as inflationary pressures increase concerns for global oil demand.

  • In the Aug22 Brent contract the put skew is the largest since the start of Feb. The 25delta puts are nearly 7% above 25 delta calls. A week ago the skew was at 3% puts over calls.
  • The puts skew has strengthened relative to calls across the term structure with Dec22 puts now about 3% over calls.
  • The higher daily prices moves have pushed front month ATM implied volatility back up towards 50%.
