CWE Baseload Spot Indexes Plunge, Dutch Peak-Load Negative

Base-load spot indexes at the Epex Spot for Tuesday delivery declined sharply in France, Germany, and Switzerland, with peak-load prices in the Netherlands turning negative amid forecasts for high solar and wind output.

  • The German Epex Spot day ahead base load fell to €27.68/MWh, down from €46.41/MWh for Monday delivery. The Epex Spot day ahead peak load declined to €2.46/MWh from €33.97/MWh.
  • The French Epex Spot day ahead base load fell to €6.90/MWh, down from €23.55/MWh for Monday delivery. The Epex Spot day ahead peak -load declined to €0.05/MWh from €13.87/MWh.
  • The Dutch Epex spot day ahead base-load declined to €34.05/MWh, down from €49.91/MW a day earlier. The peak-load spot index fell to -€1.91/MWh from €37.74/MWh.
  • The Swiss EPEX Spot day-ahead base load fell to €31.49/MWh for Wednesday delivery, down from €47.89/MWh the previous day. The peak-load spot index fell to €12.03/MWh from €39.14/MWh.
  • French baseload wind for Wednesday is expected at 6.06GW, unchanged on the day, with German PV and wind estimated at 23.94GW and 16.44GW, respectively, according to Spot Renewables.
  • German solar PV generation on Tuesday is forecast to peak at 45.315GW at 14:00 CET, compared with a previous high of 41.72GW on Monday, according to a Bloomberg model.
  • French nuclear availability declined to 67% of capacity as of Monday morning. The ramp-up of the 910MW Gravelines 6 reactor has been extended by one day until 15 May. The unplanned outage at the 890MW Dampierre 2 reactor has been extended by one day until 16 May.
  • French power demand is expected to reach a maximum of 49.93GW on Monday and 50.54GW on Tuesday.
  • The capacity at the NO2-NL Feda-Eemshaven interconnector has been reduced by 103MW to 620MW until 25 May, latest Nordpool remit data showed.
