Cyprus Could Produce Natural Gas as Soon as 2026: Minister

Cyprus could start producing its first natural gas as soon as 2026, according to its energy minister, cited by Reuters.

  • Cyprus reported its first offshore gas discovery in 2011. However, it is one of the newer discoveries in 2021 via a partnership with ENI and Total which is likely to be developed first.
  • The project, known as Cronos, has an estimated 2.5 tcf of gas.
  • When online, the gas will likely be delivered to ENI’s Zohr facilities in Egypt, around 70km away.
