CZECHIA: Korean President Arrives in Prague, Presser on Budget Outlook

  • Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol arrives in Prague today, where he will meets his Czech counterpart Petr Pavel. The South Korean President told Reuters that his nation is confident it can overcome any obstacles to a multi-billion dollar project to build a nuclear plant in the Czech Republic, despite appeals against the deal launched by EDF and Westinghouse. Yoon added that his trip to Czechia was partly aimed at ensuring the final contract was concluded seamlessly, adding that the project's success was of "paramount importance". As a reminder, the Czech Republic in July picked Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power to build two new nuclear power units in its largest-ever energy investment initiative.
  • The budget watchdog Fiscal Council will hold a press briefing on the current state of and outlook for Czech public finances at 10:00BST/11:00CET.
  • Prime Minister Petr Fiala is scheduled to meet his Polish, Slovak and Austrian counterparts, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in the Polish city of Wroclaw to discuss the region’s recovery after floods.
