Dark Fleet Tankers Taking Added Risks in Danish Straits: FT

Oil Tankers Suspected of helping Russia circumvent western sanctions have started to routinely reject export help in navigating the straits connected to the Baltic and North Seas, increasing the risk of accidents such as oil spills, the FT wrote.

  • At least 20 tankers carrying Russian oil have rejected onboard specialist pilots since January.
  • The pilots are provided by Denmark to help safe passage through the Danish straits.
  • An oil tanker was involved in a minor collision in the Danish straits earlier this month.
  • Of the 20 that refused help, only 3 were covered by Western insurance.
