DataFolha Poll Shows Lula Increasing His Lead

  • Datafolha poll carried out between May 25th and 26th reveals expansion of PT’s Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the 1st round, with 48% of voting intentions against 27% of incumbent Jair Bolsonaro (PL), according to newspaper Folha de S.Paulo.
    • In the previous poll carried out at the end of March - still with Sergio Moro among the possible candidates - Lula had 43% of voting intentions and Bolsonaro had to 26%.
    • In the 2nd round between Lula and Bolsonaro , Lula appears with 58% of the intentions, against 33% for Bolsonaro; the difference between candidates rose from 21 to 25 percentage points.
    • Datafolha heard 2,556 voters in 181 cities across the country; margin of error is +/- 2 percentage points.
    • As a reminder, Brazil’s general election will be held on Sunday, 2 October 2022.
  • Brazil’s Economy Ministry is in favor of granting subsidies to help truck drivers withstand higher diesel prices, which would cost the government another 1.5b reais this year, Estado de S.Paulo newspaper reports without revealing how it got the information. (BBG)
    • Govt also discusses extending the aid to taxi and Uber-like app drivers.
