Debt Limit Talks To Continue Virtually Today

US

The Hill has reported that negotiations between House Republicans and the White House will continue virtually today in an attempt to secure a deal to raise the federal debt limit over the Memorial Day long weekend.

  • House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said this morning: “I thought we made progress yesterday. I want to make progress again today."
  • GOP negotiator Rep Garret Graves (R-LA) appeared to contradict McCarthy a short time ago, stating: "There was no progress made after 19:30 ET yesterday."
  • There is unlikely to be regular updates on the status of negotiations today with many of the most vocal lawmakers on leave from Washington.
  • There is also no White House presser scheduled with President Biden set to depart for Camp David this evening after attending unrelated White House events.
