Dec 24 EU ETS Prices Climb to 2024 High

The December 2024 EU ETS price is trading higher on the day, reaching a yearly high so far this year, amid price increases in gas and forecast for low wind, supporting baseload fossil-fired generation in some EU states.

  • EUA DEC 24 up 1.76% at 76.94 EUR/MT
  • TTF Gas JUN 24 up 2.15% at 34.850 EUR/MWh
  • Rotterdam Coal JUL 24 up 1.6% at 119.7 USD/MT
  • The December 2024 EU ETS contract is at a yearly high currently- climbing just above the previous high of €76.81/t CO2e on 3 January.
  • Front month TTF is holding up much of last week’s gains on Gazprom supply concerns, Norwegian maintenance, higher competition for LNG supply with Asia and storage refill demand.
  • EU ETS prices could be supported this week as the German wind is forecast to be relatively low.
  • Wind for 28 May- 3 June: 8.02GW (+945MW), 13.38GW (+602MW), 3.10GW (-524MW), 5.18GW (-2.08GW), 10.56GW (-747MW), 5.72GW (+187MW), 3.12GW (unchanged).
