December Hike Very Likely, Magnitude of the Move Will Depend on November Inflation

  • Earlier this morning, NBP governor Glapinski mentioned that more PLN depreciation is inconsistent with fundamentals.
  • We have seen lately that CEE currencies have been experiencing strong selling pressures amid rising political and economic uncertainty.
  • PLN has been one of the weakest performing currencies among the EM world this month, down 4.3% against the USD.
  • Odds for a December hike are high; the magnitude of the move will depend on incoming data (mostly November CPI inflation coming out on Nov 30).
  • At 12.30pm (London time), Polish central bank Governor Adam Glapinski and Finance Minister Tadeusz Koscinski due to discuss rising prices at Public Finances Committee of the lower chamber of parliament (BBG).
  • Polish Senator Kleina said in an interview that the Senate will have the list of MPC candidates by December 23.
