Dep Gov Zamrazilova Says Monetary Policy Effectiveness Has Been Weaker Than CBs Wished

CNB Deputy Governor Eva Zamrazilova said that monetary policies may have been weaker than the central banks would have liked during the current inflation episode, CTK news wire cited her as saying. The official participated in the Czech-Slovak Economic Forum in Prague.

  • Zamrazilova noted that inflation paths were similar in Czechia and Slovakia, despite divergent monetary policies, Slovakia being a member of the eurozone. Otherwise, the two countries are similar in terms of their macroeconomic structure.
  • Zamrazilova observed that monetary policy has been significantly tighter in Czechia and yet failed to result in a quicker containment of price pressures. In her views, this points to a limited effectiveness of monetary policy.
