POLAND: Domanski Reiterates There Are No Plans For New Property Taxes

POLAND
  • Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski reiterated that the government is not planning to introduce any new property taxes, arguing that "many Poles have a second flat" and many of them are elderly people. This comes amid calls from some parties to propose solutions to increase the affordability of properties.
  • The Monetary Policy Council (MPC) is expected to keep interest rates unchanged next week, even as the European Central Bank delivered an anticipated 25bp cut yesterday. A growing rate disparity has been among the key sources of support for the zloty in recent months, allowing it to appreciate to multi-year highs.
  • President Andrzej Duda called on NATO member states to immediately boost their defence spending to 3% of GDP and asked the Secretary General to raise this issue at the next summit of the alliance. Duda declared that Poland could transfer more MIG fighter jets to Ukraine if it acquires new warplanes to fill the gap.
  • The Finance Ministry will offer PLN1bn-3bn of T-bills today.
