EURO-DOLLAR: Early closures in some Asian centres added to the expected thin
conditions due to today's Tokyo holiday. Rate touched a high in NY Friday of
$1.1469, just shy of its earlier European morning high of $1.1473 before it
eased to a low of $1.1430. Recovery efforts were capped below $1.1455 ahead of
the close. Slow trade in Asia but rate was able to extend its corrective
pullback to a low of $1.1422 ahead of the European open. Month-end models had
predicted USD demand to be seen at today's fixes, which along with it being a
SOMA day ($18.2bn) should at least provide the USD with some buoyancy if not a
significant boost into year end.
- The weekend saw the Italian government pass the country's adjusted budget plan
for the next FY, with little in the way of notable headline flow elsewhere,
outside of Brexit matters.
- Data calendar for the last day of the year seen very light.
- EUR/USD support $1.1420, $1.1400, $1.1365. Resistance $1.1454, $1.1469/73
