EGBs-GILTS: BTPs Keep Gaining

BOND SUMMARY

A mixed start to the session for Bunds and Gilts, but BTPs have returned to the front foot after a bit of early weakness - 10-Yrs having hit fresh all-time lows.

  • Data and issuance (all Bills, Germany and France) thin today, and U.S. on holiday.
  • However we do get several central bank speakers, starting with BoE's Ramsden (0900BST), ECB's Schnabel (0945BST) and Lagarde (1200BST). Later in the day we get BoE's Haskel at 1500BST, ECB's de Guindos at 1600BST, BoE's Bailey at 1700BST and ECB's Panetta at 1745BST.
  • Apart from that, attention will be on EU-UK relations ahead of the European Council summit as well as COVID lockdowns (UK set to announce measures today).

  • Dec Bund futures (RX) up 4 ticks at 174.72 (L: 174.6 / H: 174.83)
  • Dec Gilt futures (G) down 5 ticks at 135.45 (L: 135.37 / H: 135.58)
  • Dec BTP futures (IK) up 1 ticks at 149.48 (L: 149.27 / H: 149.52)
  • Italy / German 10-Yr spread 0.1bps tighter at 125bps
